I took my first long weekend getaway in my "new to me" 2005 Corvette this past weekend. I put about 1200 miles on the car, most of it Interstate with the cruise set at 70, but a fair amount of rural and around town driving. For the entire trip, the car only averaged 25.8 mpg. For a 6.0 liter V8 putting out 400 HP I think this is ridiculous. I'm extremely disappointed.

Yup Corvettes do pretty good on the highway if you keep your foot out of it.

Did you hand calculate it? Often times the computers are quite optimistic.

I did on the first tank, and it was only off by about 8/10s of a mpg.

Nope, mine has the "Performance Axle Ratio," so it's turning about 1850 at 70 mph.

Many years ago I put together a 69 Chevelle. The engine was a "mp" 302.factory 11-1 compression. I put a torque cam in it and a 2bbl carb from a 307 on it. Combined with its 3 on the tree and 3.08 gears it got 25 mpg on the hwy!

That mpg was unheard of from a Chevelle back in 1990 or so

Nicely done !!

On the road my '95 convertible w/ automatic would do about 24 even, but it had the "performance axle ratio" 3.07:1 (I think that's the number...) it also only made 300hp. The C4 vettes had a lot of body flex. I used to call it "The Flexible Fly'er." Even though it had the LT1 with the problematic OptiSpark ignition and all, it could still be a handful if you turned off ASR and exercised your foot.

Wouldn't mind having a Vette again...

I hate you.

I bought a new '07 Vette in March of '07....$4.25/gallon gas, 100 miles a day commute, and too many other toys forced me to let it go 18 months later (dumbest thing I've ever done). I ended up getting my Z4 at the end of '11 when $ was better. I originally went Vette shopping again but couldn't find another one with the options I wanted, in great condition, for a decent price. I found my Z4 for a great deal, and it was mint, with 9700 miles on it (still only has 30k). The minute my Mini goes kaput (running like new with 100k), my Z4 becomes my Daily Driver, and I'll be back in A Vette. At least a couple times a week, I get on EBay and lowball bid on one, Hoping to get lucky.....

To humor us, drive it on the hwy on cruise for an hour at 55MPH and show us the MPG you're getting.

I traded my 08 Z4 in on this Vette. I'd only had the Z4 since March. I liked it, but the ride was just too punishing to enjoy the car on weekend getaways, which is what I bought it for. They actually gave me more on trade for the Z4 than I paid for it. Someone will get a nice Z4 when they pick it up because I put new brakes, rotors, tires, and had the cooling system flushed right after I got it. Click here to see it at the dealership. (BTW, someone has put some miles on the Z4 while it's been at the dealer because it only had a little over 69,000 on it when I traded it.)

Newtons Law says an object in motion stays in motion aka a constant vehicle speed can get you stellar mileage. All that stop and go and accelerate is what kills the mileage.

Still congrats on great mileage! I know you did NOT buy it for its superb mileage though :-)

keep it around 45mph and things should improve, keep us posted and good luck.

We get a lot of people in the dealership who are shocked at the fuel efficiency these things get. The new Stingray even has an eco mode. Pretty awesome vehicle... Nearly thirty MPG, 0-60 in less than four, and a quarter mile time just under 12 seconds. If your definition of efficiency is getting the most for the least then the Corvette is tough to beat...

I have never met a corvette owner worried about gas mileage. I have owned two and never gave a second thought to what my mileage was, but that's just me. Same with the truck's I've owned over years with big v8's. I knew when I bought them what I was getting.
