Terrible MPG on my Corvette!

There are a few neighbors that have late model Vettes and are happy with them!

That mpg was unheard of from a Chevelle back in 1990 or so

You can get some decent numbers on older small block chevys, although not nearly at the performance level of a C5 vette. Our shop built a 39 Ford 4 door sedan for a guy. Had a late gen 1 350 with a decent cam, dual plane intake with a single 600 AFB on it. Trans was a 7004r and the rear end was an old 8 inch Ford with a gear ratio in the 2.70 range. He drove it all over and averaged between 25 to 28 on the highway out in Nebraska.

Not really. I had a manual, and when I shifted from 1st to 4th (instead of 1-2-3-4), I got 22 mpg driving through country roads and a decent amount of stop and go city. In there I would get some agressive driving in, still got mileage in the low 20s.

I traded my 08 Z4 in on this Vette. I'd only had the Z4 since March. I liked it, but the ride was just too punishing to enjoy the car on weekend getaways, which is what I bought it for. They actually gave me more on trade for the Z4 than I paid for it. Someone will get a nice Z4 when they pick it up because I put new brakes, rotors, tires, and had the cooling system flushed right after I got it. Click here to see it at the dealership. (BTW, someone has put some miles on the Z4 while it's been at the dealer because it only had a little over 69,000 on it when I traded it.)

I've taken my Z4 on 13 hour trips, and felt OK. I have an SI and it does have a tighter feel, but I'm used to smaller cars, coming from an S2000, MR2, VWs etc. The Vette was a lot more comfortable, just not as "nice" as the Z, the interior especially, and I'm just a wh*** for German made cars. I would never get rid of it to have a Vette, it's just a different kind of car even though both are "sporty." The Z has plenty of power and could get me in all kinds of trouble, but there is just something about 400hp that [removed] every time you push the button to take off.

Gotta step up, drove my 900hp Camaro to a car show in Vegas last December and got 17.7 MPG...not bad for 900hp and running about 85 the whole way..

Kinda sucked with no AC...but the car has run 209.33 at the Texas Mile

My brother got an almost new (780km, 485mi) '16 Camaro ZL1, auto trans. Two hours of "testing" stability control, launch control and various other things "to make sure they work" resulted in a fill-up of 57 litres, (about 15 gal.(US)). MPG not calculated.

I hate you.

I would be curious what you get at 55 mph. Above 55 mph the wind takes it's toll on mpgs.

I always thought it was 45mph where wind drag became a problem; but really it's a function of the ratio between driveline friction, tire friction and drag. In the Vette's case I could see air drag not outweighing tire drag until a speed higher than the norm.

I've heard about 45-50 mph also, or whenever the car shifts into its highest gear and isn't lugging. FWIW I just made a road trip to WV and the Mustang 4.6 got 26 mpg on the average for the overall trip and that's with some hard driving on the mountain roads.

I'm sure you will be more than pleased with new tire costs when that time comes as well......but look at all the money your saving on gas!

I've heard of Z06's pulling 34 on highway trips. My friends old Cammed LS3 auto did 32 on a straight highway drive to Canada. I bet you could get 30 if you bump the tire pressure up and drive more eco-minded.

Fortunately, it had a new set of Firestone Firehawk run flats on it when I got it. These seem to be the most reasonably priced replacements for the C6 so I'll probably go with these again when the time comes. A set of four right now on Tire Rack runs a little over $1000.00.

I have done that with mine (set the cruise to 60 though) and this is the result:

At 55mph in my 6 speed Corvette the engine is only turning at about 1200rpm

I'm not exactly worried about gas mileage because I don't drive it everyday but I am super glad that anytime I take it on a long road trip it always gets over 30 mpg with ease. I like going on long drives and it's nice when you can take it on a 4 or 5 hour trip and only use a half tank of gas.

Which is lugging!
