Teflon tape or Teflon sealant ?

I have an oil-leakage problem around turbo oil feed line, which is tapped into oil filter housing. Should I use Teflon tape around the pipe thread or Teflon pipe sealant? Maybe RTV? I don't want to waste any single drop of expensive Moibl 1

The teflon tape would probably work fine but "Permatex" makes a liquid thread sealant which contains teflon and it may be more durable in your application.

Oil lines are hard to seal. Teflon tape will not do the job if the threads are damaged. Even intact pipe threads are hard to seal. I prefer o-ring seals. When I have to use pipe threads, I use Loc Tite brand pipe sealant.

My preference is sealant on gas lines and tape on liquid lines.

Why? Contamination and if tape doesn't work its easy to remove the tape and then use sealant.

I hate pipe dope. That crap has killed more servo valves and gotten me more 2am phone calls than I care to remember. Its mainly due to misuse but I hate it anyway.

I was at a Loctite seminar today, so I asked about your pipe thread sealing question. They recommended Loctite 567, said it's good for 10,000 PSI and 400 degrees F. Loctite 567

One application tip was to NOT apply the sealant to the first two threads of the fitting, as it will work it's way into those threads as the fitting is installed.

I read something recently that said Teflon tape shouldn't be used on dissimiliar metal connections that experienced heat/cold cycles. Apparently the connection moves around during the temp cycles and loosens the tape.

The Locktite that Rick recommended should seal it up nicely.....
