Just got 2 FREE after rebate bottles of techron. Each bottle treats up to 12 gallons and I have a 20 gallon tank. I will be taking a 1,200+ mile road trip at the end of the month, and had planned on using it then.

Would it be more beneficial to use both bottles at the same time while on the highway, or use one bottle at a time?

Also, is it more beneficial to use FI cleaners while on the highway (vs city), or doesnt it matter?

Thanks!

What's the size of your tank?

Chevron has given so much info on the use of Techron, and some of it is no longer listed. There used to be info that excessive use of Techron might deplete certain oil additives. They generally recommended that it no be used more than every 3000 miles unless there was a really bad problem, and that it would be better to use it before an oil change.

The cleaner is supposed be effective under a variety of conditions. Chevron has said that having it sit in the tank for a couple of weeks might even be beneficial in cleaning the entire fuel system (tank, pump, etc).

I'd think it generally works better at cleaning injectors/valves with sustained driving - like freeway or a long country road.

i'd dump them both in to make sure you are getting a high enough concentration. i just got some of the free techron, but will wait to use it near the end of my OCI, as it seems to leave some stuff in your oil.

askoop, is that 1200 miles round trip?

That's at least 3 tanks of gas.

I would dump 1.5 bottles in an nearly empty tank, then fill up before trip.

Take the other 0.5 full bottle with you, and dump it in on your 3rd tank maybe when taking a rest/food stop when the tank is 1/2 full.

I would not do 2 bottles in one tank.

I have always thought fuel system cleaner treatment is great on trips, cause the fuel system is being fully treated in a short ammount of time.

Silly me. I glossed over the 20 gallon part.

Typically they'd recommend the 20 oz size for your tank. Might as well use the entire two bottles at once. That'll be slightly higher than the 1 oz per gallon recommended dosage.
