I have found that Fram now makes a Ultra Synthetic for my 3.6 Pentastar Grand Cherokee. I have been using a NAPA gold since the first oil change. I have never used a Fram Ultra filter. Which is better? And why? Thanks for the input. I will still be using Kendall 5W-20 synthetic blend.

Both are great filters. The difference is cost and convenience. FU is $9 at WM. You can also order 6-packs on eBay for $30

The FU has got better #'s.

The Napa/Wix is a solid piece but doesn't claim to filter as well.

The only real valid compliant about the FU is that its a little thin.

If the can is exposed to rocks or road debris and you've historically seen a ding or two in your filters because of road (or offroad debris) I'd run the Napa/Wix.

If not and it were my rig Id prefer the FU.

While we read the marketing and all the papers on a given subject, the question should be will we ever SEE an improvement in what ever we are being sold in real life? . There are so many I use M! oil and Fram Ultra filters and have 300,000 miles on my car and it runs great! The next guy with the same exact car says well I use the cheapest oil and filters and have 300,000 miles on my car and it runs great.

It is simply good vs better. If I can get a better filter for a similar price then it would be worth it.

FRAM has struggled with some cartridge applications with their Ultra product.

So I wouldn't be an early adopter on the FRAM.

The Wix/NAPA Gold is a great choice. I'd stay with it until a few people report back success with the FRAM.
