Very ODD

once in a while my TSC light will come on... my 02 Honda Accord V6 will run perfect....

but that Light will be on.

So I hook up the OBDII scanner and it says misfire detected. P1399 is code (( PIC BELOW ))

Well I can tell there is no MISFIRE.

I clear the code and the light goes out for a few days.

I was told by a few people at work to clean the IDLE AIR INTAKE...
Its not a hard job... just remove the air intake and its just a few screws.. Looks a lil annoying.. I can get the part at work for lik 69$
but Im told they just get dirty / stuck and just need to be cleaned....
however I have no idle problem

What do you guys think?

Also I checked each spark plug by removing power to the coil to see if any cylinder was misfiring and each time I removed the power to the coil it started to miss.

Also I changed the plugs about 3 years ago and I put in NGK Laser Plats

and them are suppose to be the OEM/OES / the best plugs to use.

What do you all think??

Any info would be great.

You could have a misfire driving down the road and never feel it. Original wires? I had a 99 Lumina 3.1 showing multiple misfires, never felt it, even at idle. Was bad coil. I would change the wires, they can't cost that much, and go from there.

That particular engine has coil on plug and those coils do go bad. But when they go bad, they usually go bad hard.

But the easiest thing to do is to make sure you are running with newer NGK/Denso OEM spark plugs and if the problem still continues, then diagnosis further.

Misfire could also be due to valves out of adjustment but usually 1399 code would have cylinder specific code too.

Weird that a misfire would trigger the traction light and not the check engine light.

I'd start with plugs and work on up. Maybe fuel pressure drops, but I'd think that would trigger a bunch of other codes, and would actually be felt.

Can you get freeze frame data? Like the info about the rest of the parameters when the code is set? I wonder if it is a misfire under load.

I have run into this before with some Honda engines. TCS light with a weird code for random misfire instead of the typical P300 yet it doesn't seem to be misfiring.
It has often been a failing VTEC Solenoid AKA spool valve. I don't know if they used it on the 2002 but in 2003 they did on the 3.0V6, you might have one depending on the month it was manufactured.

Changing them out for an new OE unit is the only permanent fix. The mesh filter on the oil filter mounting pad seal should be changed also.
Ask the Honda dealer if it has one based on your VIN.

I do have the NGK the book calls for.. The OEM / OES.

NGK (4363) PZFR5F-11 Laser Platinum Spark Plug

OEM/OES Spark Plug

Thats Copy and Paste from AMAZON.

and that's exactly the plug I bought from WORK... and it says in our Computer OEM / OES

I did that at work on the OBDII scanner and wow that took a while and it it was all good.

O2 sensors were good the MAP was good.

all was good.

very very ODD.

Also my car dont have wires... It has coils...

I told you I already removed power to 1 coil at a time and I could feel a mis fire in a second with no mistake....

This is driving me nuts.

Another guy is telling me it could be the EGR Valve that might need to be cleaned and or the IDLE AIR CONTROL....

Today I just put some Seafoam in the gas.

Im not a big Sea Foam guy... I always use Marvel Mystery oil when I fill up......

Also I only put small amount of Sea Foam.

Also on note.. When I took the power to the 1 coil at a time and i could clearly see the engine missing I would plug it back in and go to the next plug.. and I did all 6 plugs and none are missing.

then NGK laser Plats only have about 25K miles on them.

what you think?

ALSO ** UPDATE ***

Today on lunch the TCS Light came on and the IDLE was going up and down.. but just very small mount....

going from 900 to 600 very small amount....

I scanned it with OBDII and it says misfire.. but as I said there is no misfire.

people are work are saying IDLE AIR CONTROL is dirty and for me to clean it.

but I looked at videos on you tube and when them get stuck the RPMS jump up to like 1800 to 800 and bank and forth.

Basically I just erased codes and all was good...

VERY VERY ODD.

what you think?

I think Im going to clean EGR and clean IDLE air control

Whats SO SO ODD

Is right now the car is perfect.

Also how can clearing the codes cause the problem to go away???

very ODD

I think Im going to clean the IAC and perhaps clean the EGR Valve.

I already orrder the 2 gaskets from world pac

I like OEM / GENUINE HONDA Parts...

Plus my speed perks :))))

So I save

Ignore the TCS light for the moment. Once there is a CEL (or pending CEL), then TCS will use that to determine if it wants to light up or not.

You are on the right track with EGR flow clog. This is a very known and common problem on this engine. Honda actually simplified the top plate on the upper intake manifold on later engines to make cleaning the passage *EXTREMELY* easy. Usually, this would end up in P0401 code aka insufficient EGR flow but in your case it might be on the border and has not tripped yet.

Either you can post the picture of the top of the air intake manifold (after removing the vanity beauty cover) or somebody might confirm that this engine has the removable top plate. If that is the case, just go ahead and clean the EGR passages. There are lots of youtube video on how to do that.

Using the code reader, give me freeze frame data which will tell which the misfire occurred. If it was at 600 rpm, then IAC cleaning would be warranted. If it has at higher RPM, then EGR passage cleaning should be attempted first.

Let us know. I am interested in finding out how this gets resolved.

Thank you so much for the info.

I already ordered the gaskets at work.... I dont want to start the job till i have all the gaskets.. I have the EGR gasket but I need the gaskets when I remove the Throtle body when I clean the IACV...

also Its been 2 days and I scanned today and NO CODES..

I put Sea Foam in the gas 2 days ago and I have never used sea foam...

However Im just waiting for the gaskets to come in from WORLD PAC

When i do the job I will take pics...

I hope cleaning it will do the trick.. but so far its all good.....

but I know it could start again next time i start the car.

The upper intake manifold gasket or the so called "ant-farm" cap on your particular model use re-usable gasket. Usually, EGR itself does not give any problem but the passage in the air intake manifold which gets clogged.

I got all the gaskets yesterday from work...

the 2 gaskets to remove the Throttle body in the event the orginals tear.. I also got a new EGR gasket.

HOWEVER... I put about 3/4 bottle of Sea Foam in and it has not come back.

VERY VERY ODD.

Also I have never used sea foam.. However for 40K miles with each fill up I have always added MMO..

Also I was a lil bit low on coolant and I added Honda Gen Blue Type 2 Coolant to the resivoir..

the last 4 or 5 days have been perfect... I check each day at work and no codes.

however if it happens again Im ready to clean the AICV and the EGR....

I forgot to tell you... I know this was a long time ago.. A guy at work did a put sea foam through the hose that connected to the brake booster .. It was sea foam in the spray can... So much smoke came out i figured someone was going to call the fire dept.. LOL... Then since at that time the car had so many miles on it I put a new egr. The old EGR was so dirty it was completely closed up... I have no had a problem since that...
