sorry to cut your post down, but your points here I heartily agree with. I wonder if any of the older (like our '03) Impalas or the new ones for police duty have as many problems as the civilian versions? If so, of course they can afford to get the p.o.s.'s repaired.

Local police agencies are often constrained by price. They usually have to get approval to buy vehicles from some elected body such as a city council who is often only concerned with saving a penny. I read the min's of a local city council meeting where the discussed buy some police cars. They had 2 local bids for new vehicles and one bid from some big police car leasing company. They bypassed buying locally to go with a out of state leasing company who offered them a better deal on slightly used vehicles that had been already in service. They were the current model year vehicles. The police chief objected to buying used vehicles but the city council had the purse strings and all but one member voted to buy the used vehicles.

Those Sheriffs in my county who aren't still packing CVPI's are driving Expeditions. They have some unmarked Explorers as well and at least one marked Explorer. But there isn't a GM product in their fleet that I'm aware of. Hickbillies to Ford's rescue!

hundreds of Impalas serving our sheriff well. They actually hold up quite well.

And the officers tell me they are a nice driver with low fatigue factor.
