The Lenovo has better processors and a vastly better screen (IPS vs. TN-film), and is built to military specs, but is somehow priced a LOT lower than the Dell. The only advantage I can see for the Dell is that its touchscreen can recognize 4-finger gestures, whereas the Lenovo can only recognize 2-finger gestures. Is that enough to account for the price difference?

I'm not looking for buying advice per se. I just want to understand the relative strengths and weaknesses of these products, and why the Dell is so much more expensive despite having (mostly) worse specs.

It's gotta be that touch panel. The specs are way different. We have one of those XT2s here at work (special order for a director) and it's rather underwhelming. The accessories for it are a rip-off too.

the xt2 is using an older ULV processor

the lenovo seems more of everything except maybe the screen.

Just a quick update. After all the research I've done, including talking to Dell, I can say with relative certainty that there is no good (publicly available) explanation for the XT2's higher price given its specs. The Dell rep with whom I spoke by phone seemed just as confused as I am. The XT3 is scheduled for a July 1 release and is supposed to bring the specs, build quality, and price back in line with those of the competition. In other words, it's supposed to be better overall AND better for the buck compared to the XT2.

FWIW.

We have several of the XT2s at work and they really suck. I'd wait for awhile. Somebody is going to come out with a better answer for the laptop/netbook/tablet hybrid and it won't be long.
