Hi

I did a search but nothing.

Rotella T6 vs Delvac 1 (SM, E9) for a high performance gasolene engine application. A lot of people recommend T6, but D1 goes quietly unnoticed. Is one any better than the other?

Or to ask another way, what is the difference?

Petroleum quality institute of America did an analysis of several HDEO recently. They posted them on their website. They may or may not have them in archives yet. If you do not see it near top scroll to bottom of page. Happy reading.

I've only seen them test the mineral HDEOs so far, not the synthetics which the OP is asking about.

I have to ask, but why are you considering these two in the first place for this particular application?

I was wondering the same...M1 0w40 sounds like a better choice to me.

Possibly price reasons... I know M1 is very expensive in some parts of the world.

Yes D1 delivered to my door is cheaper than buying M1 0w40 in the shop by a good margin. My car called for 10w40 synthetic and D1's KV and HTHS specs are closer to the recommended 10w40 than a typical PCMO 5w/0w40.

This is kind of a follow on discussion from here

I think T6 gets so much love here because of its widespread availability in the US. Both are great oils. Use the D1 if you can get it delivered to your door for a reasonable price. I know, "reasonable prices" for oil are relative in many places outside the US.

For what it's worth, XOM actually recommends Delvac 1 for high performance gasoline engines right on their spec sheets. As has been mentioned in this thread, it's a much better bargain than M1 0w-40 in many parts of the world, including in your own personal experience.
