I used both oils with no problems and your engine isn't particularly sensitive. Some even used 15w40 HDEO in summer months, although for most this is overkill unless you're burning a lot of oil. That depends more on the formulations. I believe most synthetics, such as Synpower or PP, tend to be pretty much the same at temp. as conventionals. I was doing a lot of summer highway driving with my ol' SL2, so I wanted a thicker oil at temp. I also had good luck with Valvoline MaxLife 10w30/40 for reducing consumption to about one quart every 3500-4000 from a quart every 2000-2500 with conventional...
