Hi

I read a lot of threads talking about how bad moly is and it will cause engine failure if comes out of suspension etc etc. Then we have people who say nothing but good things about moly. Last week I changed my dad's eurovan's oil with lubromoly 10W40 with moly. Oil looked very dark and dirty. By the look of it the oil is loaded with moly. The engine has never ran smoother! Less noise, revs faster and reduced valve noise during warm up.

Lubromoly is a huge German chemical company. Do you think they would sell an oil that can cause damage to your engine?

There is NOTHING BAD ABOUT MOLY used in modern motor oils!! NOTHING, ZILCH, ZERO, NADA. It's a very good additive. Anyone who thinks otherwise is a fool and doesn't know anything about oil.

In the summers, I have always added Mr. Moly on my accord with M-I 15W-50 and suffered no problems, currently I am using Mr.Moly in my gearbox and diffs on the various vehicles I own and they just benefitted from cooler and smoother running.

Never mind...

5W40 does not have moly in it! 10W40 has moly in it. In fact this is what lubromoly sent me.

"Classifications: SAE 10W-40, API SJ, CF, ACEA A3-98, B3-98 (oil without MoS2)"

Now I am not sure (oil without MoS2) applies to B3-98 or all classifications!

The difference is between particulate moly in suspension (eg molyslip et al) that is likely to just clog filters (Bad)

And organic moly as an EP and AW additive as in many modern well formulated oils. (Good)

Learn some basic chemistry.

And sharpen your posting skills.

I hate to sound sarcastic, but
