Can ordinary Mobil 1 synthetic 5w30 or 10W30 oil be used in the gas /oil mix of a 2 cycle snowblower engine? Thought I read somewhere that it could be and that it contributed to fewer deposits within the engine but can't find any information when I do a search on the net or this site. Will appreciate any information from anyone who has tried it or knows of any links regarding it.

Most likley would leave harder deposits. The proper 2 cycle oils are the best for 2 cycle engines.
Do not mix passenger car oil with gasoline to make your 2-cycle mix. There is a lot of stuff in PCMO that does not need to be in a 2-cycle engine.
Mobil says do not use M1 in two strokes unless manufacturer approved.

I wouldn't. Use one of the Amsoil 2 cycle oils instead, they are made for 2 cycle engines.

Differential gear lubes, MTL's, ATF's, PCMO's, HDD's, and 2-cycle oils all contain different types of additives and different ratios and different types of base oils.
Use the correct oil for the application.
In earlier years, one was allowed to mix 30 weight mineral oils with gasoline at ratios of 1:30, but that is no longer a recommended practice.

You could use a straight 30wt oil in premix if you were shot down in Korea and thats all you could get. It would work and be better than nothing, nothing would blow you up in minutes, it would not be the best choice. Two cycle oil is the best, but since they quit making two strokes as of 2007, I hope I dont outlive the production of two stroke oil.
there are still millions of 2-cycles out there, so there's a market for the oil.

There are millions out there, but currently all I know being made new are Chainsaws and a few weedeaters, that you will see have EPA carbs. I dont know how true it is but, a guy told me at United rentals, that they are going to start limiting the amount of permitted EPA carbs until its more profitable for the makers to design a four stroke engine to sell enough equipment. Lawnboy two strokes are history, along with all the Major Motorcycle makers, 2007 was the last production year for Suzuki, Yamaha, Kawasaki, Honda(like they even care) and Polaris(They made thier fortune on two strokes). The boat makers are fighting them, but losing. Thank you California, for saving the planet with all your wisdom.
I have 4 Lawn Boy mowers, a Lawn Boy edger, a very large Toro 2-cycle snowblower, and a small Ariens 2-cycle snowblower, plus my three leaf blowers. Let'em try and stop me.
Theres a good two stroke man! I love them too. If I can get in two stroke over four stroke, I got it.

Fouled a lot of plugs in those days. One cardboard quart of 40w (if 30w was good 40 must be better) into 5 gal of gas, roll the jug around and pour it in. Fogged all the mosquito's with the smoke and kept the dust down with the pipe drool. Interesting , rings pistons and cranks don't last any longer today with special oil than they did back in the day. Parts stay cleaner though.

So what do you guys run in your Lawn-Boys, and at what ratio? Do you have the Duraforce, or older ones, like with D or F engines?
