I've read that the cleaning phase takes longer with synthetic.

I just changed the oil in my wifes car, 5 quarts of 5W-30 Mobile1 with an AC Delco filter from Advance Auto.

I also added 10oz. of AutoRX. I am leaving it in all winter, and longer if she isn't to 3000 miles yet. At most 5000 miles.

I've read that you only need to leave it in for an extra 500 miles (2000 total), but I've also read that it doesn't hurt to leave it in longer, so why not...

You can leave the Auto-RX in, just change out the oil filter. It may be full of crud after 3k. So you can run the oil & A-RX for 5-6k, just change out the oil filter midway.

I'm going to keep the amsoil in since I just changed it, and I wasn't planning on doing another until spring. I don't mind it taking longer to work, as long as it works as well. Figures I find this stuff a week after I do an oil change.

Thanks for the answers guys.

Synthetic Oil can't effectively be used as rinse oil.You don't want liquified contaminants clinging to the metal, you want them rinsed off and out of engines.

Some of the additives in the makeup of the complex additive package in synthetic oil do not lend themselves to rinseing.

The additives in a "Dino Oil all lend themself to this rinse mode. Please take out your synthetic oil for rinse step. As soon as your done go back to synthetic oil.

Using synthetic oil for cleaning phase (1500 miles)is okay.

Nothing wrong with running synthetic oil during the clean phase(while ARX is present). Be sure to spin on a new filter at the time of the addition. Run at least 1500 miles for a clean phase with synthetic. Rinse for 2000 miles with dino for best results.

Frank,

Did you know that motorcraft 5w20 and 5w30 is a synthetic blend per the label? In spite of this is it ok to use in the rinse phase?

thanks

So any Group III synthetic, such as NAPA synthetic, would be fine during the rinse?

Rinse Oil should contain no synthetic esters. Thats all. Auto-Rx is natural occuring esters and they will expend engery cleaning out these type synthetics. You want Auto-Rx to rinse off liquified contaminants from the oil lubricated totating parts in your engine. And do so at full strength.

When rinse is done go back to any oil you wish, unless you have sludge or leak issues and if this is the case go to www.auto-rx.com and click on applications for "Heavy Oil Burning/Sludge" and follow these instructions.

Anyone know if MC 5W-20 contain synthetic esters?... I don't know.... Very confused on syn blends now.
