So what do these #'s actually mean? "english" pleas

and how do they apply to usage/change intervals...

They are the kinematic viscosities for 5 different Mobil 1 oils at 2 diferent temps, warm and hot. Signifigant loss (or any change) of original viscosity during service life and TBN is more relavent to user change intervals. Refer to the various online tutorials for oil spec info.

Jeff, what I did when I was new here was use the crap out of the search function. You wil start to understand all the #'s by just going through alot of "old" posts.

There are alot of guys here that know their stuff on oil make-up, I however am not one of them

.

The SAE grade you are familliar with (5w)*30* is a "30 weight" at operating temp, +100C. This numeric range corresponds to the kinematic viscosity used in the above post...SAE 30 weight= 10-12CsT. You want the oil viscosity to stay relatively constant throught it's use. A 30 weight should stay a 30 weight if that is what you have chosen for your engine. Kinematic viscosity is just a more accurate way to refer to the viscosity than just stating the SAE range.
