Okay im sure its been discussed many many many times hear on bobs. But Since I don't have a turbo and I do change my oil at 3,750 miles am I wasting the oils potential to run longer. My car does have a di engine which Hyundai says is hard on the oil. As a matter of fact the tech from Hyundai I talked to said make sure I do change the oil at or under 4000 miles. In the manual it states either 3,750 for severe or 7000 miles for regular use. I do smell gas when I change my oil so im sure there is some fuel dilution going on. I was told its better to run a synthetic with the di engine. I use Quaker State Ultimate Durability 5w30 most of the time and with the fuel rewards on sopus oil then I believe its a no brainer. Why would anyone use conventional oil when the syn oils are so cheap to use as of right now.

gas smell in oil is quite normal, if you ask.

syn or no syn, part of the deal with regards to DI engines is to be able to handle additional fuel dilution, while all other things being equal.

I don't use syn for the price I pay here in my area is typically 50% more than that of conventional oil (the term dino is quite dergatory, for in order for conventional oil to meet current API SN/ILSAC GF5 spec, base oil must contain a certain amount of Group 3 oil (thus the term "group II+), and so technically-speaking: conventional oil is technically a semi-syn oil if you are to ask me.

Q.

Well your choice of manufacture has stated for it's warranty requirement intervals synthetics do not provide substantial benefits thus there is no synthetic requirement from Hyundai.

Because conventional oils are even cheaper and protect very well.

I don't know if synthetics are better at mitigating the effects of fuel dilution. Perhaps one of the more knowledgeable posters can fill us in.

Unless you want/need the benefits of a 0W-xx oil, conventional is fine with 4k OCI, fuel dilution not withstanding.

One reason is that if you're doing 4K OCs, Quaker State Conventional is $12.97 a jug on sale and Quaker State Ultimate Durability is $21.97.

I would be OK with regular conventional oil in that car. It's not like there is that much of a difference any more. I would only use synthetic if I had a turbo.

Stay with the Quaker State Ultimate Durability.

It's great oil and you're not paying a tremendous premium to use synthetic.

Right now, Pennzoil Conventional is $17 and change and the Quaker State Ultimate Durability is $21 and change.

For $4/change you can enjoy all the additional protection a quality synthetic can provide.

It's worth that to feel better about your choice.

Use any SN (higher spec than mandated by OM) with the viscosity recom'ded and enjoy the vehicle. No syn is required as per the OM. I would use any of a plethora of great conventional oils. Because of the d.i., i would use conservative oci with either conventional or synthetic(as i do).

Thanks for the info people. I figured id stick with sopus syn oils since The fuel rewards make it a better deal then buying regular conventional oil anyways. If I did switch over to conventional id use Pennzoil Conventional or Quaker State Conventional but for now ill stick with syn.

Also im most likely gonna sell the car come September and I don't wanna tell them I used syn then switched to dino. Hopefully it makes a better impression

most avg joes and/or stealerships don't care if you use boutique grade syn oil or some corner store brand oil (IMO), all they ever care for is whether there's oil in the crankcase to begin with.

IMO
