Unless something has changed in recent years, the military switches brands all the time depending on which vendor wins the supply contract. I believe the military runs their equipment harder than any of us ever will (typically until the wheels literally fall off) and switching has not caused any major issues with their equipment.
My Dad used QS for many years--from the 60s onward, but switched to M1 sometime in the 90s and used it until he passed away. I used M1 in the 90s and then switched all over the place, landing with SOPUS in the mid-2000s until around 2012 and then went back to M1.
I have never experienced more or less consumption with any brand, but that does not mean it cannot happen.
