We have a 2001 Mazda MPV we have started using high mileage oil in. These are apparently notorious for for oil disappearing in whether by burn or by leak. We are hoping HMO helps, but my question is should we always use the same brand HMO or will switching brands of HMO to whatever is cheapest every oil change perform the same function? Would the additives be that different that we should always use one brand?

For the best results in stopping leaks & burning, I'd say stick to the same brand. Valvoline MaxLife Synthetic Blend or Full synthetic are both cheap at Walmart, same goes for Pennzoil High Mileage or Pennz. Platinum Full Synthetic High Mileage. Stick with the high mileage oil for a couple of oil changes to see results.

Well, we have 4 5 quart jugs of 5w20 Mobil super HMO that we caught on clearance at walmart for $5 per jug with a $7 mail in rebate so we were actually paid to buy the oil so that is what it will have over the next 15k miles or so. But this is more for when we are out of that, what happens if I just buy whatever clearance HMO is available at the time rather than the same Mobil Super?

It takes awhile for the additives to work. So I would wait a couple of oil changes before you move to something else. That way you will know which ones work and which ones don't. I'm assuming they are not all the same

Absolutely. It takes time and patience, and sticking with it when you find something that works. MaxLife was great on the old F-150 when it's issue was leaking. Mobil Super 2000 was a failure. Of course, other people may have completely different results, and have to find what accomplishes what they're looking for.
