whenever the MT oil was not warmed up, I could hear my 3rd gear "click".. not grind, but it was a start to a problem. I drained out the Amsoil 75w90 and put in Redline MT-90, problem is gone! I can put it in 3rd gear all I want and it's nice and smooth

Sometimes synthetic is too slippery for the syncros to spin-up quickly. I know another guy that used MT-90 to vastly improve shifting on his 1970s VW van transaxle.

My Toyota felt a little clicky on hard shifts for the first few miles with Valvoline Synpower...I switched to non-synthetic Valvoline and that cured it. I may go to Redline 75W-90 NS in the Toyota at a later date, but I have to order it. So for now, I'll stick with off-the-shelf Valvoline.

I did just the opposite, changed the Redline to Amsoil in the Manual trans, and like the shift better with the Amsoil. (I still like the Redline in the diff and transfer case)

The Red Line MT-90 is an excellent product, but you could also have tried the Amsoil MTL product. I know a lot of people that have had excellent results with that product.

I think it depends totally on the transmission which works better.
I kept the Syn in the diffies and transfer case.

I noticed the Amsoil was a little hard to shift in my Aisin 6speed when cold. I've had much better luck with the SynroShift II from BG so far.

Gosh - this could have gone either way, to a degree.

Good shifting is a pleasure of driving - I'm glad it worked for the better! See how it is in 2k miles or so.
Right off the bat, it sounds like a simple slight viscosity difference, not a quality thing.

For others out there, minor differences could go either way depending on individual transmissions and driving techniques.
I give the slight edge to Amsoil MTF over Redline MTL, but that is only one situation, as well.

In retrospect, their probably is a reason to why the shifting is hard. The fluid change and the effect it made on your car is most likely just acting like a bandaid effect. And probably will come back eventually. But the type of that fixes the issue better than the others is usually going to be a better fluid in the end.
Trial and error is my motto.

The BG Syncro Shift II is a very good product, it's just a little hard to find.

Redline makes MTL, not Amsoil.

Correction: MTG 75w90 GL-4.

That is a reasonable guideline, yes.

Amsoil MTG is in the same family as Redline MT-90.

I think the OP used the wrong Amsoil, hence, the "better" outcome with Redline.
