Has anyone switched from synthetic to conventional because of price.I myself went from Pennzoil Ultra $29.00 gallon to Pennzoil conventional which is $15.00 a gallon.Right now synthetic oil is not cost worthy. My OCI was 7500.Now it is 5K OCI.Joe
I actually switched for the reverse reason, I found it cheaper to buy syn bundled w a premium filter for around $28 to be cheaper overall then spending say $15 for oil plus a filter, of course i extended my oci and spend less time and resources changing the oil. But overall I guess its 6 of one and a half dozen of another.
My E430 has syn only, my S2000 and LS400 had conventional or synthetic depended on which one I had in my stash. Right now I don't have any dino, the last dino was Peak oil I had FAR 2-3 years ago, all syn oil I have now was bought for an average price of $2-2.50/qt. I doubled the OCI with syn oil.

Unless you can double your OCI with synthetic, using synthetic will typically not be cost effective. Chances are, you could have done 10K+ on synthetic, but it depends on a lot of different factors.

+1 - figure in the value of my time and the synthetic makes more sense...
Figuring in the value of my time as a retiree and the pleasure I get out of physically caring for my car and the satisfaction of knowing that clean, noncontaminated, high TBN (relative to used) Motorcraft semisyn oil is flowing through my engine and a new FL-500S filter is incentive for my 6 month/6K OCIs costing less than $25 each/$50 per annum.
