Switch from AMSOIL to PP - Keep Filter?

A few months ago I switched my 2005 Pilot and 2006 Accord to AMSOIL 0w20 with Amsoil oil filters. Both cars had about 26,500 at the start. I thought both had only 36K miles power train warranties. Well, they both have a 60K mile power train warranty. I was planning on extended drains of 12,000 and then testing both. If possible, stretch to once a year as they both put on about 17K to 18K miles.

I am concerned about invalidating the power train warranty and am considering switching back to PP with 7,500 changes until 53K to 55K miles.

Question - If I switched out the Amsoil at 7,500 miles on the oil, is there any reason I would also have to change the Amsoil oil filters?

Thanks for your help.

We are running the same oil in the same engine (that is the one in our Pilot). I am going to go 10,000 or every 6 months. I do not use the Amsoil filters yet. When I do get the Amsoil oil filters then I am going to a 1 year OCI regardless of mileage. I am not sure about the warranty, but Amsoil says they will go to bat for you if the engine has an oil related failure with the manufacturer.

Pablo, Don, Gary, any ideas here for this guy?

You could switch back to Amsoil's XL oils. But I wouldn't worry about switching from the non XL Amsoil.

Maybe my main question is being missed here. Would it be ok to continue to use the Amsoil filter that has 7,500 miles on it with the new PP oil? Or must I change the filter as well? I just thought since these filters can filter for 25,000 or a year and I would only have 15,000 and 10 months I could possibly continue to use it. Thanks again.

You must have money to burn if you are changing out a 15 dollar or so 25000 filter at 7500, or maybe I am misreading what is going on here. Wouldn't be the first time!

If it was me, I would get my money's worth out of that expensive filter and run it another 7k miles. Filter is defeinitely capable of it in my opinion.

I was wondering the same thing, because I was going to change my oil soon but I might use the EaO twice, since it only has 4,700 miles on it (about 5 months), and just change it when I change the oil again this summer.. I think it's probably capable of it. It's also said that filter efficiency tends to improve with time as well.

If I'm not mistaken Amsoil says the EaO filters are good for 25k or one year when using Amsoil oil. I would say you should be ok keeping the filter on.

If you use junk oil, use junk filters and change both.
If you use good oil, use good filters and change with the oil.
If you use premium oil with premium filters, follow the recommended change intervals.
If you use junk oil with premium filters, filter change interval is your own call.
