Had to break the news to a long-time customer of mine that the block on their 2010 SX4 (2.0L, 192K mi.) is cracked. I find mention online of a substantially extended warranty for the 2.4L version of this motor used in the Grand Vitara, etc. If there any such coverage for the 2.0 in the US?

How did that happen? Was it overheated badly due to an un-noticed/ignored cooling system fault? Or is that just a common issue with these engines?

They called me because it was overheating, but I believe the cracked block is the cause of the leak that eventually lead to low coolant>>>overheat. Didn't blow the head gasket, I've driven it quite a bit after filling it back up and it holds perfect temp. Based on what I find on forums, it's a pretty prevalent issue with this engine series.

That was only for certain Grand Vitara and Kizashi models

I saw a 20 year extended warranty on grand vitara and kizashi.
Guess I'll be dumping my Kizashi soon.
20 years unlimited miles
You got ~7 years left, stick it out 😤
I'd be more concerned if you can get service, is there still a functioning Suzuki service center near you?

Many Daewoo and Isuzu owners know this struggle 🙄
PCM reflashing, key code lookup, NLA/Discontinued parts 🥺

When you ask in the US?
I assume you're in Canada?

Suzuki's are frequently used as Taxi's in India, so chances are you can get an engine, but it might take a boat and alot of waiting. Here is a service provider link http://suzukiauto.com/Contact.aspx

Searching I saw 1 in Kentucky, Tennessee, WV.

Good luck.

I'm more worried about the CVT crapping out, Been hyper servicing it.

Time for the junkyard….most of those were junk anyways.

I know two people who owned them, neither one made it past 120k…

One trans, one engine issue

Despite what many say about the quality of Suzuki, they were actually pretty stout little machines.
Problem was aftermarket parts....there wasn't much, even when they were new.
Parts that should have been available from major manufacturers, were only available from the dealer (think timing, wheel bearings, brakes etc.)

As a result, most were driven hard and disposed of cheap.

The (admittedly earlier) Sidekicks were easily swapped from the 1.6 or 1.8 to a 2.4 (or was it 2.2?) from early 2000's Swifts.

Did Suzuki maintain this type of compatibility into 2010, ie is there another donor for a swap? I'm guessing the CVT might throw a wrench into the works? Also, I had no idea they were using a CVT in 2010......

No.
Much newer car, much more emissions variables
Your not gonna zip tie and vacuum hose plug your way out through an engine swap in one of these

All the used engines online seem to have 100k + miles unfortunately

I was actually able to find a 45K mile used engine through LKQ from Canada for $1700, already on order. Has a one-year warranty for a second-time replacement so the owner can put the vehicle back on the road, save up/look for a different car and sell the Suzuki while it's still operational and warranteed. The CVT is still hanging in there, but I even told them I don't have any confidence in its longevity going forward. Fluid has been changed at least twice in the last 100K miles.

Sis looked at a Suzuki SX4 and liked the body. The CVT was the deal breaker.
She ended up selecting a 2012 Mazda3iTouring.
Neighbors across the street have a red SX4 AWD. I don't chat 'cars' with them, so I have no idea if it's an OK ride.

Isn't the Versa a NISSAN vehicle? Or is there a Suzuki version too?

In any event, your sister made the right choice in going with the Mazda3.
