Suzuki DF2.5 outboard low compression

You think this was caused by oil and not a manufacturing defect ?
Yes, possible overheating, but whatever the cause, the rings are scoring the cylinder walls. Possibly pistons, but who knows.
All I know is the the "best oil Valvoline makes" can't be much worse.

Ultimately " a reduction in power" may not even be cause for alarm.

Yes !
at 2.5 horsepower it would not take much to notice a loss of power.
 
Those cylinder pics don't look great for a $1000 little outboard like this. These are a highly regarded unit.
 
I have great news. I emailed Suzuki customer service with my findings including the bore pictures and they are sending a new outboard to the dealer. That's fantastic customer service.
