Im always on the hunt for good bolt action surplus. The one I have the hardest time finding and getting a idea of what to pay for is the Swiss K31. Ive seen prices range from $150 to over $400 for this rifle without any actual difference or varient. Ive seen on J&Gsales.com they carry them currently at $199.99 for Good/Very Good condition. And the average Ive seen on other sites is between $250-$300. Im looking at one at my local pawn shop in really good shape for $275, which isnt bad since it would be that much after shipping and fees to order it online. Im going to a gun show next weekend looking for one of these so what would you think is a good price in person. Also same goes for a Mauser Czech vz. 24. Ive seen these things as low as a $100 and as high as $400.

Prices have gone up since I bought mine about 4 years ago. The price at J&G sounds like a good deal in today's market. I read that the supply of K31's for importation to the U.S. is drying up. Get one while you can. Be sure to buy some GP11 ammo.

Been on SGN, WWFA and NWFA?
There was a guy selling a number of K31's.
They are on my short list as well. I have an 1889, and found out too late about the ammunition problems. (GP90)
The k31 is generally the higher priced (and nicer condition) of the Schmidt Rubins, with the 1911 being close behind.
At this point, I'd pay 400 for a K31 that isn't import marked, and has a NICE bore, and not feel bad about it.

The difference in price you are seeing is the condition of the stock and how much extra stuff comes with it. A matching bayonet will up the price $60-100 and a sling may up the price another $15, better bluing condition will raise another $25, etc. The stocks are known for being really beaten up but the metal is in good shape.

i bought a $199 J&G Sales K31 that's in great mechanical condition.

You guys are killing me.
Now I've got K31 on the brain.

You see sportsman's guide has stripper clips?

Thanks for pointing that out! Thats not a bad price with how uncommon they are.

I have ordered a Bulgarian Makarov through J&G without any problem (except taking 2 months for them to ship it...)but I dont know how I feel about ordering a surplus rifle because of the stock quality. Its a bit of a gamble to get a good stock. The one Im looking at at at the pawn shop for $275 had a fantastic beechwood stock and bluing was alright. The sight and receiver were in the white. But the stock was in amazing shape. Ill be checking the bore after the gun show im going to. Its been 6 months of hunting and so far Ive gone to 4 shows and many shops and this pawn shop is the only one Ive seen for sale in person.

I've had good luck with J&G. I got a styer m95 from them that was perfect and a No 4 mk1 that was pretty nice. I bought my k31 4 yrs ago and paid $100, but 199 from JG is a good price for today. Go for it! They are great guns.

If I cant get one at the show or the one Im looking at I guess Ill give J&G a go. After all the B.S. they put me through with my Makarov its hard for me to order from them again. I know that all the customer reviews for just about any surplus firearm shows a perfect 5 out of 5. People are very happy with their rifles and they say it took less than a week to receive them. My FFL and I had to call J&G and bug the [censored] out of them just for them to honor my order. I dont know if Im special but this cant be the only order theyve done this to.

LOL
I'm trying like mad to find original parts.

Im going to the pawn shop to inspect the bore and maybe buy it. Got to try and restrain myself at least till after the gun show on the way home next saturday. As of right now I know its matching #'s and the stock is in great shape. Not all beaver chewed like a lot of poor K31's. I talked to them today about the $275 price and they are willing to haggle. I asked if $225 would be acceptable and they will consider. Im not worried about the rifle being sold before I get my chance. Ive got something working in my favor. The price tag on the rifle is $399.99. For some reason they havent changed it. Theres no way anyone would buy a basic K31 without any goodies for that price and pass it up quickly. All I need is a week. And a way to hide it from the women, plus what ever I buy at the show... and I will. I dont leave a gun show without a new piece to the collection.

I got that K31. Got it for $250. Put it on my credit card so I can leave what gun money I have alone for the show. Still hoping to pick up a vz. 24 mauser and a type 99. Ill get some pics of the K31 on here tomorrow.

My most expensive mouaser was a Yugo with a super pretty stock and bayo for 175.
A german k98 is on the list too.....

At the show there were a couple Schmidt Rubin 1911 rifles, one was "sporterized", the others were too much money for the condition.

I never have any luck with Mausers at shows. Theres only a small handful and they want waaaay to much for them. Im talking over $300 for an ok yugo.

Rix, be carefull not to shoot commercial 308 win in that thing, it was specced for 7.62 nato. I take it is a Civil guard Spanish mauser, they were originally in 7mm mauser and then later on rechambered and rebarreled. Google it, lots of info out there.

Stay Safe

I'm not worried about the average .308 winchester cartridge, it won't be shot enough to worry about it. Too spendy for my habits.
Surplus stuff is pretty much all it will be fed.
BUT, it's not a one-shot and it'll blow up kinda thing, either.
They aren't near as weak as people think.
NO, it doesn't have the 3rd lug like the 98, but whatever.

Now I'm not going to load up some super hot stuff for it either
