Excuse my ignorance but what are you referring to?

$23-24 and change for 12 quarts.

It is not going to win the "best oil VOA of the year" but if you are running dino and say have less than a 4qt capacity or more than 5 quarts (ie when the 5qt jugs gove too much or too little), you are looking at a decent deal. $8 for 4 qts or $12 for 6qts of oil. Not shabby.

It looks very similar. I doubt SOPUS will say that it is the same but definitely in the same family line with very similar add-packs for the 5w30. The 5w-20 in the PQIA sheet is a bit different but I never crossed paths with it.

Napa Synthetic is the best value in my book for these reasons;

-On sale it is usually about $3.50 a quart, so 5 quarts equals $17.50...almost the same as Supertech

-It goes on sale regularly

-Based on VOA's it is pretty much re-badged Synpower, and

-Doesn't require me to drive 30 minutes to the nearest Wal-Mart or get even remotely close to a Wal-Mart. Nearest NAPA is 10 minutes away.

Still though, I would even argue that Castrol 0w-40 purchased at Amazon for $26.68 for a 5qt jug is the best deal because it is premium oil and shipped for free to my front door

I'm with you on this.

(I would throw Carquest in there too [re-badged Valvoline])

When I looked at the bottles a year ago at my Sam's here in northern NJ the bottles had the markings of Warren Distribution. The same company that packages SuperTech at my Walmart. Though The SuperTech conventional is Sodium AW where as the Certified uses Moly and Boron it appears. The Warren SuperTech Synthetic uses Moly and Boron according to PQIA last I looked so who knows

Both ST and the Napa syns are good value syns. The specs on the Napa syn versus the Valvoline though suggest the branded product uses better base stock than the Napa. Add packs look near identical though.

Would agree with the Napa syn...have very good luck with it.

Meijer's full syn is also 17.49/jug, but has the dexos cert...

I always use Pennzoil Platinum in my cars. Started using it either in 2007 or 2008. Wally World sells the 5qt jug for about $25. But I always get $5 coupons to knock the price down. For my mowers and Mother-in-law's John Deere X475 garden tractor, I use Rural King full synthetic oil. $2.79/qt regular price isn't too shabby! While it isn't Dexos rated, it does have the API starburst and is SN rated.

For the same price (within $1), you can get Pennzoil conventional, Castrol GTX conventional or Valvoline Conventional (though I think Valvoline is on rollback).

Since none of these oils are approved for any of the newest OEM specifications, they are obviously targeted towards the applications which have less-stringent requirements.

Im confused by "none of these oils are approved" Which oils? They all carry a SN

As far as Super Tech, its a major brand oil formulation, you just dont pay for marketing.
Use it, its the same stuff as all the others, you cant go wrong. I believe Citgo now makes it.

Lets face it, like televisions, most of these oils now use ad packs developed by a handful of companies to be used with any brand oil. Back to TVs, just like that flat screen you are using might have different components, the screen itself is made by a handful of companies.

Heck, anyone with money can start their own oil brand without ever touching the oil, you jsut go to a company and say I want this oil and this ad pack with this label, buy enough of it and they will do it. Citgo only comes up as they make Harleys Oil and MANY others, I happen to see Super Tech on one if their spec sheets online.
