Cutting it open... probably about 8000 miles on this filter. Oil not immediately changed. This filter had the HPL No VII 5W-30 in it exclusively, very minimal top-off of other oils as I refilled my HPL at the event on Friday. This filter was on for all the road trips from the initial "zero mile" for the HPL oil in the signature.. as well as plenty of (extended) exercises of "this car will go X number of miles per hour." Used to the fullest.

Let's cut it open and see.

First, I pre-lubricated the gasket in some old transmission fluid. And put it next to its replacement.

Now for the rest...

Looking for "carbonic paste" like @wwillson and other HPL users may be seeing but I don't know what I am looking at. 👀

How does this one look? And what say you?

OH... and I couldn't use my Fram XG6607 original intended replacement because the gasket "came out" somehow. Not sure how but. In the trash this goes. Unless you all want to see a virgin XG6607 (unused) cut open?

@KCJeep How did I forget this one.

Cut "all the way?"

@Big_B ST9688 to XG6607 gasket? They are different...

OP: Are you using the 7317 and the 9688 interchangeably in the same vehicle? I'm pretty sure the 9688's that I have left over from our (sold) Hyundai would work in our Mazda 2.5 Skyactiv but I'm not sure I want to try it.

PS: Once again I'm impressed with the ST filters.

Yes! I have interchanged the 6607, 7317 and 9688 in the same vehicle! This to give a variety of oil filters and how they look inside.

I now have over 13k miles and soon over 14k miles on my oil.. I *should* change it but.. the HPL is so good (and yes I have had to top off some with fresh oil, ok) that I could likely go longer!
