I was just at my local Walmart and noticed the Super Tech filters went up from $2.24 to $2.48!

Price increase always suck but it would happen anyway. just like gasoline. inflation you know.
besides 2.48 is not that bad for a decent filter. price can't stay low forever. in comparison look at Mobil 1 filter it's almost 10 bucks! if you really on the budget and 20 cent increase is that big a deal, try some of those aap total grip filters. i think they cheaper. less than 2 dollars.

The first picture is a Supertech 3593A, the second is not. Filter 1 was in use for about 8600 miles, #2 for about 700.

This shows the general principle of how the media tears first where the pleats are widely spaced.

I just read that WalMart sales declined 3.5% in April. Their quarterly performance as been coming in below their on projections. Maybe they are looking for products in their stores where they think they can increase profit and still beat other store's prices. A $2.50 filter that is available at a store where you can also buy groceries, and just about anything else, is still probably considered a pretty good deal to many people.

Walmart is my backup for filters and oil when the stash is low. Bogo Bosch for $6 at CSK and Pepboys purolators for $2
are what I use now. Recent additions of PP and Texaco on sales pretty much means I'm done buying for 2007.

Even at $3 they'd still be a great bargain. The only filters we have up here for under $5 (and just barely under $5) are the Frams. Everything else is twice the price or more (even a Wix filter is over $10 here)

That depends on the type of filter.

The filter for my engine is close to $10 for the Fram or Carquest. $12 at the dealer.
