I found the same things.

I tore one open after reading everyone poo pooing the Ecore.

They have never used one, they have never opened one, but it' a "cheap filter that will kill your motor" bravo sierra comes out of their mouth.

So, I went a cut one open. Very impressed.

I've used about 2 dozen now in many cars/trucks and all have been perfect.

I cut open every filter I use and not a single issue.

DOESN'T matter. Particle counts, capacity, bypass, ADBV, none of it matters. With ST, you're saving $1.39, it's an "adequate" filter, it's "good enough", and if you SPEND that extra $1.39, (or whatever) you're on a fool's errand.

Been there and done that argument for the last time.

I would have to agree. After disassembling one and seeing the quality of the filter, and getting good support from Filter Guy/Champ, I will not hesitate to use them again. I will not waste the money to purchase a more expensive filter in the future, just to get the same performance. I would recommend anyone who has doubts to spend the $2, cut one open, and see for yourself how well made it is. I know this is a complete 180 from what I stated earlier in the post, but not only did cutting one open change my mind, but the customer support at their 800 number was phenomenal. That goes a long way toward earning my business, even if the price were higher.

if you didn't use a filter wrench then you wouldn't have crushed the filter and ruined the gasket...

I don't want to get in between this old vs new raging debate here, but my local Wallyworld still has the 'old' ST filters. Should I buy all of them for future use? Though its been highly debated here, I still like using the older ones. Are the new Ecore designs even showing up yet at WW?

You're mixing apples and oranges.

The "Old" design is of a baseplate that is not E-core.

The "New" design is now the old E-core design, as a plate has been added across the top so that it now has a flat surface which resembles the "old" design in your pictures.

Any filters that you find at Walmart with the recessed base plate is old stock.

What you have is an old style E-core and a pre e-core Champ with clicker bypass. Some WM's are discounting them for $1.00, clearing out NOS. I picked up all of the ST43's,(5), that our local WM had. Thay are good filters. Used to use them all the time. Never had a problem.

Ok thanks for clarifying..my WW doesn't even have the 'old' e-core yet..lol..Maybe I will wait for the $1.00 sale here
