I saw them at Walmart and was impressed by the price. I read online and saw people saying they're made by Champion, the same manufacturer of OEM Volkswagen filters.

I've been using M1 filters with the assumptions they're more reliable and have a longer service life (they say 10,000 miles on the box). Are Supertech filters good or should I get something better? I change my oil every 6500 miles with 503.01 approved oil so I need a filter that's good.

I've only seen 3-4 different types of Fram, the ST's, and a few Motorcraft. You'll have to see what type of Fram they carry for your application and then do a search on that filter here. I know a few of them get up to $10-12 each and at that price I believe most will opt for a different manufacturer.

I'm sure you will get more 'useful' info from others here that what I posted.

What makes you think Champion is the OEM supplier to Volkswagen?

Every single filter I have removed from VW's on their factory fill oil over the past 9 years has been either a Mann-Hummel or a Mahle-Knecht filter.

I've never seen a Champion filter as a factory installed unit. I have seen Mexican made Mann's though.

To my knowledge the SuperTech line does not include a model that fits the 1.8T. Staying within the Champ line your might consider the STP S3569 for $4.19 at AutoZone.

The over-size filters that are now used on VW/Audi 1.8T sludgers are (or at least were at one time) Champion produced filters. The regular sized 1.8T filters are NOT Champions, and never were, to the best of my knowledge. I've got pictures of the two side by each. Let me see if I can dig them up....

Here's the picture. I HAD a picture looking INTO each filter, but it's been lost. The big filter is representative of the over-sized Champ-produced OEM VW filters. The last digit of the current part number of the big filter is "B", not "E" as in the picture.

I dont think you will have a problem with the supertech. I have one on my corolla right now, although I did just buy 5 of the 2 pack of purolator pure one filters on amazon.com for $5.88/2 pack. They might have the one that fits your car on there. can always go to pureoil.com and check the vehicle application guide to see what fits your vehicle

Depending on whether you have a Jetta, Golf, or a Passat will determine which filter you have. If you have the Jetta/Golf 1.8L turbo, Supertech doesn't have one, but the STP is a S2870A. A Passat with a 1.8 turbo takes a STP S3569. Supertech doesn't have one for it either. For the money, yes, Supertech is a very good choice, good filter/great value. STP and Supertech (great choices for good quality filters) are both made by Champion Labs are very similar in performance.
