Good Afternoon Everyone,
Question . . . Is the SuperTech MP oil filter (Blue Can) being phased out?

My local WalMart is no longer selling them and with the extra space the filters have been rearranged in ascending price from the bottom shelf to the top. Included at the bottom level are the OEM Toyota, Honda, Subaru, Mopar and Motorcraft filters. The Mobil 1s are at the top with the Endurance. A new add in one of the slots without a box is a Fram Core oil filter COR12750ACC. I'm not familiar with this Fram model and could not find it on their website.

The MP line is being phased out and more options in the 10,000 mile supertech filters are being added. That core filter is what the shop uses for oil changes, should be out in the bay.
Thank you TeeCee. What's interesting is my WalMart does not have service bays so I'm not sure who will buy those Core filters!

Was at Walmart this morning, yeah it seems that the Supertech MP filters aren't being restocked, couldn't find any MP9688. I think its a move to move volume of the branded filters on the higher shelfs.

The Endurance filters I checked today many have closed or thinly opened louvers. I'll pass until QC improves or they moved to punched holes or ecore center tubes.

Seems to be the speculation around here & with the whole filter shuffling that we've seen in the last few years it wouldn't surprise me. They've been really trying to pack the shelves with what sells more. I never bought any blue cans but it's a shame if we lose another line option from a convenient source like Walmart. RIP ST MP Blue Can 😭

Must not be enough "louver making schools" around yet ... I see lots of different filter brand I've looked at with louvers all over the place. Consistency seems to be a real challenge.

More like them lacking six sigma staff experience, not very ISO 9001 of them looking at the dumpster fire of wasted money and material sitting on the shelf this morning. Until a customer randomly blows up their engine running one of them, maybe they'll do something about it.

Don't need 6-sigma practices to form center tube louvers correctly. Just need someone trained well enough on the manufacturing machinery to make it work correctly, and a little QA to ensure it's always maintained, setup well and working correctly.

The lack of Super Tech MP series filters and even shelf slots for them been reported multiple comments this sub forum recent weeks. If it is an indication the MP line going away, too bad imo. At ~$6 with silicone adbv and metal end caps, decent value filter. What I've seen of the lower end ST series construction posted, I'm not as enamored with them. Unlikely to purchase, let alone run to the "rated" 10k miles.

The Fram Core had been filters used in the TLE/ACC for years. They actually got the name "Core" from back when Rank Grp owned both Fram and Champ and the filters became majority ecore filters, changed from mostly Fram fiber endcap type. Even though the "Core" were not intended for retail sale (fram rep reference), they frequently showed up for sale on ebay, and even rarely in some stores.

At b&m AZ stores locally, the MP series filters are still available by another name as STP XL for ~$10. While I like MP at $6, at ~$10, pass.

I stopped at a Walmart in North Carolina yesterday and I took my regular detour through the oil isle even though I didn't need anything from there.

The Supertech MP filters were gone and they brought in more Supertech ST options. I ended up buying an ST11665 cartridge for my Pentastar engine for $2.97. Same efficiency as the MP but only 10k miles instead of 20k miles.
I also saw the ST 10358 cartridge for Toyotas for $2.97, opened it up to look at it and it was wire backed white media just like the Fram Endurance. Didn't buy it because I'm stocked to the gills in this size. But the price is very good.

That was the only Walmart I saw the extra ST filters. It probably will happen at all Walmarts eventually. It seems like the regular can filters are still at $3.84 and cartridge filters are at $2.97. This is what I will run when my current stash gets depleted.

I imagine the price point of the MP line is the issue based on the average consumer’s perception of “store brands.”

EX: For my Toyota
MP4967 = $9.85
OEM YZZN1 = $7.44
XG4967 = $8.97

We know based on C & P threads these MP’s are good filters, but the average Joe DIYer probably does not know what is what. Why would someone pay more for the “WM brand” filter?

In my observation the MP prices, MP4967 an outlier in relation to majority MP series. Most like the popular MP7317, ~$6. Fwiw, I would agree with your point in the MP4967 example, but with most at ~$6, MP series a good value imo.

Still can get them up on Walmart's site.I grabbed six of them.Wish they had the 20,000 mile 5w20 Super Tech syn oil but they are getting as bad as Sam's.Carry something you like and "BOOM" they don't carry it no more!

All the Supertech MP filters were removed from the local walmarts this week, I was hoping to find them in the clearence aisle but was disappointed. Maybe they were sent back to the manufacturer. I used the MP10358 on our toyota.

I bought the last 4 MP7317's my store had maybe a month ago. Last I was in a couple weeks ago they had restocked that bottom shelf layer with Supertech ST models. Unfortunately there is no ST7317.

They do still show the MP at walmart.com. If you like them, might be a good time to stock up.

This is a blessing for me cause now I can get a cartridge st11665 for under 3 dollars. It was sold as an MP and was closer to $6 before . Same exact filter.
I also noticed that the st10060 now has a reall bypass valve and not the dual ADBV/bypass valve thing. Before just the MP had a dome end bypass for that particular filter.
