Hi,
I bought Walmart's SuperTech High Mileage Full Synthetic today (5-09-19). After the old oil drain I started pouring in new oil. As I was pouring, I noticed a clear low viscosity stream with edges surrounded by what was a normal oil color.
I did a quick shake of the 5-quart bottle, but the stream coming out of jug looked the same.
I put contents of the jug directly into a dried water bottle, 3/4ths was clear, with tan color floating on top. I've never seen oil like this before!
Needless to say, I'm glad I didn't start the car. "Oil" is going back for refund, Pennzoil Platinum to be bought.
(Hopefully my pictures uploaded).

Not ST's fault - this is the result of scammers taking advantage of Walmart's lax return policy..

[censored] used 3/4 of the jug for his or her needs, filled the remainder back up with water and returned it for a full refund.

Yes, jug was sealed, 99% sure.I would have noticed that. (BTW, these jugs don't have a foil seal.)
The clear contents almost looked like mineral oil, but I didn't get any between my fingers to check how slippery it was.

Sounds like you got some of that *** whatever-it-is *** into your engine as you first poured. Flush with SuperTech cheap stuff. Idle for 5 minutes and then drain.
Then put new Platinum in. This is a awful, I know.
Also, Walmart will now think you put in the junk when you return it.

You say the seal was in place? I guess Warren Distribution (the supplier) will just say the seal was broken. They may have a problem.
Wonder if you can save a cup and send it in for analysis and/or back to Warren Distribution ?? If you're into that.

That has one of those spot welded plastic lids, so that "should" be hard for someone to re-seal that, AFAIK.

i wish all oil these days would have anti tamper lids and foil seal and if either are broken then no refund. way too easy to miss this and mess up an engine. i started ordering oil off the walmart website instead of the store. i would think less chance of getting a return bottle this way .

What happened at the store? Did they give you a hard time? Did they refund your money? Did they call the cops, and wanted you arrested for a fraud charge?

If Ada_Potato says it was sealed, I think the starchy vegetable is right about that.
Warren Distribution blending error here. I mean, that cap was spot welded on to the lower ring. To fake that, you'd have to take a soldering iron to it with a steady hand. Guessing.

If I was going to do the shady (water) return, I would have bought the Royal Purple. Buying SuperTech and doing a water return doesn't sound logical.
If this was water, I would think the oil would be on the bottom, and water on top. Isn't the density of oil greater than water?

I have heard, not experienced, that a hole is put in the bottom of the jug. The oil is drained through the hole, refilled with a liquid and sealed with melted crayon or glue.

Oil is lighter than water and will always be on top.

I agree with you about choosing a cheaper oil over a more expensive oil. Maybe they were slightly smarter than a box of rocks and thought that trying to return an expensive oil might draw more scrutiny?

Did you check to see if the "seal" was glued back on? You should see some residual globules if you look closely.

Spot welded allowed rings can often twist off with the top cap. Especially if you are trying to encourage it.
