It’s my opinion that GL-5 gear oil IS hypoid gear oil. But I noticed while shopping Walmarts less expensive 80-90 and 85-140 only list GL-5 and not HYPOID. The most expensive 75-140 synthetic says both GL-5,Hypoid. Am I wrong or is Walmart just trying to sell more of its premium product?

Maybe 140 is better for that type of gear's & gear wear & 90 isn't adequate? Lack of additives in the "Non" gear oil. Just thinking in simple terms.

Was picking up for my 2018 GoldWing shaft drive motorcycle. Spec is Hypoid GL-5 90wt. Any will be fine I’m sure. Just wondering am I mistaken, is GL-5 not ALWAYS rated as Hypoid gear oil?

I just got some supertech 85w-140 for my brush shredder.
My brush shredder leaks a little oil so the. Some of the game is thicc and cheap.
I changed the seals in 2019 and it stopped leaking for maybe 2 months
