supertech filter safe for extended drains?

My parents have (2) older cars (84 chev. S-10, 83 merc. Cougar) both cars are driven under 5,000 miles per year. Is a 6 month oil change interval safe with a supertech oil filter? Maybe longer? I was thinking 6 month oil/filter changes with a conventional oil, suggestions?

Good evening MustangGT;

5000 miles / 6 months is not an "extended drain" for most vehicles these days - in fact, it's the "severe service interval" for a number of respected auto makers (Honda and Volvo come to mind).

It's only an "extended drain" compared to the 3000mile/3month interval - I won't bother going into that...

I figure a champion labs Supertech filter that has had good reviews on this site should be good to go!
