Hey, I was in Wally's world today and I bought a Supertech filter for my girlfriend's car. I looked in it and it appears to not have an anti drainback valve. Her car's filter is sideways so it seems to me it should have one. Then I went and looked at an ST8A which is the standard Ford spec and matches FL1A and Fram's piece of crap ph8a. It didn't appear to have an anti drain back valve either. Am I just missing something. Do the supertech filters lack an antidrainback valve or is it in a different location?

Hmm, I guess I'm confusing the drainback valve with the bypass valve. On the Napa Gold filters I've been using on my Nissan Pickup there is this springy thing in the front of it. I thought that was the antidrainback valve. Is that actually the bypass valve?
Yup, you got it. But just because you don't see the "springy thing", it doesn't mean that there's no bypass valve. Some are in the thread end and some (a different design) are in the top of the can. And of course, some don't have one at all.

I read some posts about Supertech filters being harder to find but never thought anything else of it until the last month or so. The three local Wal-Marts (within 30 minutes of each other) are ALL losing the Super Tech filters with bigger and bigger Fram sections. I know this was posted in another topic but I thought I'd mention that Bay Area Wal-Marts are losing their supply of Super Techs as well.
Good thing I bought up seven when I did.
If you look very closely at the bottom the whole bottom is a single disc and there are like a half dozen 1/4" holes drilled in it.
I've noticed the same thing in comparing the supertech ST8A with the FL1A. The Motorcraft's bypass is clear to see at the front end. Does anyone know if the supertech has the bypass valve on the "back end" ? It doesn't appear to have one from looking into it but I've never cut one open.
The STP and Bosch filters I've cut open seem to match the supertech bypass valve setup. There's a bunch of little holes drilled in a circle on the bottom end of the filter. The metal spring fits against those holes while holding the filter body tight against the base. I did the same thing when I looked at them at first, since I couldn't "see" the bypass.
