I was at Wally World yesterday picking up my oil change supplies. I picked up the SuperTech filter and visually inspected it. To my surprise, I saw no signs of a ADBV; Red/orange for Silicon or Black for nitrile. I checked several more and saw nothing but metal a media. Needless to say, I went to Napa an bought a Gold filter.

I have been using SuperTech filters on my car for a while now. Have they always not had a ADBV? I can check the one that is on my car tomorrow when I change the old one out.

Let me know if I am missing something.

Are you seeing two end plates? Many ST's have an added end plate to facilitate spinning it on. It's just a plate with large holes in it. The regular end plate is beneath it.

Yep... not all filters have ADBVs.... common with many factory-installed vertical mount filters of recent years. My GM Colorado 4X4 doesn't have one. But I generally stick to the AC Delco because not-all replacement aftermarket filters for my Colorado have the absent ADBV. So I choose not to have anything that could go faulty inside my filter. The only filter I found that replaces the Delco PF-61 without any ADBV is the Baldwin model.

Even if some filters don't come with one, I'd pick one that does. I am not aware of any GM filters without ADBV, in fact they came out with new part numbers just to add the ADBV. This includes vertical filters, a siphon effect can still drain the oil out.

Well, we don't know what part number he's talking about ..but if his handle has anything to do with it, he should be seeing a ADBV or a combo ADBV/bypass valve. If he doesn't ..then he needs to see a blue button through the threaded port.

I noticed that too. It was for a Pf47 replacement and several others I just randomly looked at. Good to know Im not going crazy.

Why?

My ADBV-less GM AC Delco PF-61 filters have always remained full after shutdown. Plus the oil channel above the filter holds 4-5 ounces of oil. Absolutely no need for a part that can go faulty. But if you want to take that risk -- then go right ahead.

Sorry for not getting back sooner, I was on a road trip on which my car hit 100,000 miles.

The part # is ST-3387A and it is for my 2001 Pontiac Grand Prix GT.

I will just say that ST filters have the poorest ADBV on the planet. My Nissqan rattles like crazy on startup with ST filters.

I was under the impression that all filters have ADBVs

Do these Nissans come with a silicon ADBV factory-filter? If so, then perhaps stick with it. If not, then the Champ filter design is not startup-suitable. That means avoiding AC Delco and STP filters too.

Supertech ST3593A filter (Honda)....ADBV or no ADBV?

with all this Anti Drain Back Valve talk, now I'm curious....do I have one on my Honda SuperTech filter?
