Everything JohnBrowning said has been in the back of my mind thru this whole discussion (except the GM4718 issue which I wasn't aware of).

Given the unknowns on basestocks, suppliers, etc, a user should be rewarded for buying such an oil by paying substantially less than the name brand oils (regardless of TODAYs UOA performance).

Because I believe PP is based on Shell Helix Ultra (XHVI) base-stock and I believe it is the best GrpIII going.

Not all applications could benefit from best vs 'not sure' but ones that do... the 33% more for PP seems like it's good trade-off.

BTW, I can't justify using $3 synth. I think a good price for ST would be $2.39 everyday, about x2 SuperTech conventional.

Agreed, sir.
You can build a stash of oils showing better used oil analysis over longer runs than what ST will yield, at lower cost.
What is the point of a 5K syn, even if it does yield great used oil analysis over that mileage?
I plan 5K OCIs, but using an oil that has shown good used oil analysis over longer mileages gives one the convenience of extening that interval. If it is the dead of winter, for example, and you really don't feel like lying on your back on a cold garage floor, you can safely extend the run of a good syn, an option ST may not allow.
Finally, how good is WPP's quality control? Is ST a consistent product?

Sorry for the bad comment G-MAN. It was a frustrating day. WPP=Warren Performance Pruducts a subsidiary of Warren Distribution. Not to be confused with Warren Oil company.

Hey, I would have said that SuperTech was on the same level as Fram before I perused this site. But now that I have read it, I am currently running ST. Mr. Marx, if you would, please let me know why you made the comment you did. It sounds like Fram is a four-letter (bad) word around here....is ST as bad or not?
