Super Tech change in design

I may not be up to date but when I changed the filter on my 88 GM truck yesterday I noticed that the filter I got a couple of weeks ago has a totally flat metal plate on top with the holes in it. This is unlike any filter I have previously seen so I am wondering if it signals a major change at Champ or whoever makes them. Is this the infamous E-core filter? Thanks, RW

Its been discussed before here and it is the excellent Ecore.

They put the plate on so it's easier to install (though I've never had a problem)

(here is a photo for anyone new who wonders what he is talking about!)

The filter is black, just my flash is a little too strong..

Good filter for the $2 price range. For a buck or so more on sale, the AC Delco, Motorcraft, Purolator Premium Plus are better.

I too, was pleasantly suprised after bringing home one of these new Supertech filters, after having used several of the older style.

If nothing else, I think it looks really cool. Much different.
