I have a 2008 suzuki ltz400 quad. I'm currently using 10w40 mag 1 synthetic blend that I got off amazon for 26 bucks shipped (6 qts). They have since then raised their prices. I have 4 qts left, enough for 2 more changes. If the prices keep going up for the mag, I was thinking about using walmarts super tech regular oil in 10w40 flavor. The bottle doesn't say energy conserving so I think it'll be ok. Opinions?

I feel that the slipping clutch with Car oil is way overblown. I ran all kinds of oil and never had a clutch slip. my 07 LTZ shifts terible. let me know how the Super Tech oil shifts.

I don't know what weight your quad calls for but I would use 15w40 over 10w40 especially in Texas heat.

I might try it. I forgot to mention that the mag 1 is actually motorcycle/atv oil. In supposed to change t every 10 hours anyways so I'm thinking a jug of Super Tech won't harm anything.

Yeah I used 15w40 rotella in my Hyosung motorcycle. But 13 vs 10 bucks. I know it's nothing, but ill be changing the quad oil a whole lot more than I will the bikes

does your manual say every 10 hrs? Mine says every 90 days but mines an 07.

i dont know much about the Super Tech 10w40, but i tested the Super Tech 15w40 and it was pretty darn awesome.

i have yet to see a 10w40 of any brand show that it could make it 10hrs in a wetsump of a hard run motor.

I'm not pushing the super tech 15w40 as the 'answer' for your needs...I'm just doing a short interval oil change with it to clean out the engine on a used motorcycle I just bought; my 'long term' oil choice is most likely gonna be a 10w-40 synthetic blend motorcycle oil (such as Suzuki or Spectro brand) or Shell Rotella-T 15w40 since it is JASO-MA rated and the bottle label indicates this

Would you do 15w40 Rotella T or 5w40 T6?

its a dry sump design. I have an oil tank on the side of the engine that holds 90% of the oil.

Shared sump means your oil lubricates the engine and transmission, meaning the clutch is a wet clutch. Many dry sump systems over the years with a separate oil tanks are still a shared sump or "unit construction" system such as the famed CB750 Honda SOHC engine.

Shell Rotella 15w40 or T6 5w40 (syn). There is even a some rebates going on now. I beleive both those oils carry the JASO MA/MA2 rating....which you will find in the owners manual. Good oil at a resonable price. Also Mobil 1 10w40 motorcycle oil is good stuff.
