For my grandfather's 96' Jeep Cherokee's rear end. We're having all the bearings replaced in the rear axle(roaring noises) and I picked up some Super Tech Synthetic 75w140 for it for $11 per quart. Is this stuff any good? I can return it and get some Mobil 1 for $19 per quart but I wasn't sure it was necessary. What do you guys think? I was told 75w140 would be a good idea in the event the Jeep ever tows, so why not.

Bit thick for that engine I think

Lol sorry I meant to mention we're having the bearings replaced in the rear axle. It's a Dana 35

it'll be perfectly fine. If you wanted to get a "name brand" synthetic 75w140 Valvoline Synpower is usually only about $13 a QT. Synpower gear lubes are generally my go to Diff lubes.

+1

Gear oil is not a place I would skimp. Save that for rotors and brake pads.

If it's the 4.0L 4 cyl and not towing alot, no need for exotic rear end lubes.
The Dana 35 is not carrying any load.

This will last just as long and 1/3 the price.

Super Tech 75W-90 Syn-Blend Gear Oil, 1 Quart

75w140 will decrease the fuel mileage.

Don't skimp on the brakes on these, will pay for it in a sudden panic stop at 70 mph.

Gear oil is gear oil is gear oil.

There's someone on here that runs the Supertech 75w90 in his OTR 18 wheeler.

I wouldn't run 75w140 unless towing. 80w90 or 75w90 will work fine. Not sure how much of a difference, but I'm running 85w140 in the rear diff on my Cherokee ... that stuff is THICK.

Super Tech gear oil is API GL-5.. If a person was to use it, how is it skimping out?

I do agree with the above comments on the 75w-140 not being much of a value though. The 75w90 blend OTH seems good price wise.

Walmart recalled some Super Tech transmission and gear fluids few years ago.

I wouldn't use Super Tech transmission and gear fluids even it it is 1/2 price of name brand fluids.

Saving only few dollars over 4-5 years is about skipping 1 cup Starbuck coffee a year.

Many here have use store brand fluids issue free.

Their recall was in 2009 and for thicker gear oils IIRC. The ATF is new to me.

To each his own. Like I said, it's API GL-5.

Its good enough.

Use any full synthetic 75w140. I don't go out of my way for generics but I haven't seen any issue with supertech products.

I returned the super tech today. I went to the dealer and bought the Mopar limited slip additive and they ran the VIN and said it calls for 80w90 in the rear so I'll just buy that in either SynPower or Mobil 1

So is it made in the back of Walmart by employees from the produce section, or do you have any data to show it is inferior? You know, data like you presented when you said M1 was different at Walmart than at an auto parts place.

Oh wait that's right, you didn't have any data for that either. Never mind, my bad.

you could do that or just run a 75w90 synthetic with the LS additive already in it. Synpower and M1 already have that LS additive in them in the 75w90 grade, you wont need to add the FM from Mopar if you are using an oil that is LS rated.

I heard they don't have enough limited slip additive in them though?
