'Sup with Wally World?

A couple of weeks ago I bought a five quart container of QS 5w30 dino oil for $9.27 at WM. Yesterday it was $12. ALL of the oils have gone up at my local Wally World, including Trop-Artic that nobody has purchased for months. (The same quart containers just sit there and gather dust)
The only oil that hasn't gone up is the former Dexron-Mercon and that is now cheaper than the Super-Tech dino engine oil. I feel that Wally World is just trying to show a profit at the expense of the motor oil purchasers. Even the non-detergent straight 30W has jumped way up. You can't tell me that the cost of ALL of the engine oils have gone up that much.......especially the Trop-Artic stuff that hasn't sold for a long time.

Yes, the Rotella Syn is 17.99 a gallon at Autozone. From what I've heard, that's cheaper than Wal-Mart now.

Wal-Mart changed their logo and added a "sparkle" at the end of their name. I read that it will cost 40 million to incorporate that change throughout their corporation. Perhaps they are passing on the "sparkle" to the consumer?

My closest Walmart also just raised the price of the Rotella T syn to $20 and they still are selling the SL variety.

Funny thing is, the Sam's Club across the parking lot is clearing out their stock of SL Rotella T Synthetic 5w-40 for $27 & change for a case of 3-1 gallon jugs.

Also they have the Qpower 4x4 5w30 syn stuff for $17. Halvoline DS $10 and QS is $8.27.

Mobil 1 is still $23 plus for the normal stuff, Green top is $25 and EP is $28.92.

The big change is GTX which is up to $12.32... 2 weeks ago it was $9.87!

I posted about this in the sales forum and I got the impression that this deal is not at every Sam's. I just popped in there yesterday for something and confirmed that it wasn't a mistake. They still have something like 17 or 18 cases left. It's actually cheaper now than the non-synth 15w40 as they just raised the price on that to $29 something.
I already added 3 cases to my stash and just found a deal at the Mopar Nationals last weekend involving 9 boxes of M1 0w-40 so I have all the oil I can use for a while.

Got a gallon jug of regular old Shell 10w30 at Advance Auto today for $9.38 today...was $.60 cheaper than the Advance Auto brand.

What's the deal with that Advancer Auto brand anyway, anybody ever use it?

Or what you get for living in a four letter state?

Really don't know. My cousin who lives in Idaho sees the same deals for the most part. (their cost for Castrol GTX has not gone up from $10 yet)

This is true, but people were specifically stating Wal-Mart raised their prices on the GALLON jugs of Rotella Syn. If they specify gallon, I'm assuming they mean the 4qt variety jug since the 5qt isn't a gallon.

I've gone back to (extrememly minor) stashing -- I have the 5-qt. jug of PP and the filter I need for the next six months already.

If the Mall-Wart or anybody near me still had the TropArtic, even at near $2.00/qt., I'd buy it. But nobody seems to carry it.

I used to use the stuff all the time......but not anymore. About 5 years ago, they had a mail-in rebate on their oil. It was something like if you buy 5 quarts, you got about $5 back in the mail. I filled out the rebate form, peeled out the liners from inside the caps (I think that was it) and mailed in the original store sales receipt.
About a month later I got a letter in the mail saying that I had made a duplicate ticket (I had not. It was the original) and that in order for me to get my rebate, I needed to send in the original receipt by such-and-such a date stated in the letter. The date that was stated in the letter had passed by a couple of days and I had sent in the original receipt in the first place. I vowed right then and there never to buy any TropArtic oil and I have kept that promise. There is also a gas station in the town that I work in that sells TropArtic gas. I've never purchased a drop of their gas either.
Call me anal-retentive, but I do believe they have lost more than the original $5 on me.

BTW, my local Wal-Mart sells TropArtic oil for about $1.90 a quart. (Present price. It will probably be higher tomorrow) Perhaps TropArtic stopped giving rebate checks to other people in my area also because the quart containers sit on the shelf collecting dust. Nobody around here buys it any more even though I feel it is a decent oil.
