hi gang, long time lurker, first time poster. i have a 2007 Saab 93 2.0L turbo. i was wondering if you guys(and gals) could help me choose the correct engine oil.
a few details: 2.0L 16v i4 B207R, 65,000miles, engine tuned to 269hp/317 lb ft, i live in Pennsylvania which has all weather seasons. i tend not to drive very hard, but i do the occasional freeway blast deep into triple-digits. and avoid short trips whenever possible. i change my oil every 5-6k miles, so about twice a year.
i believe the factory fill was Elf oil, and the manual recommends Mobil 1 0w-40. i did not like the way Mobil 1 made my car run. it seemed to knock at idle, and took forever for the engine to reach its normal operating temp. when i would change the Mobil 1 at 5k the oil was black...i mean black....
for the last year i switched to RP 5w30, and relatively pleased. the knocking is gone. and the engine warms up quickly. the mpg increased, and the car runs smoother. after 5k miles the RP oil is still amber-brown in color. but alot of people tell me a 30 oil is too thin for a turbo application.
money isnt really an issue, i dont mind paying $60 for oil twice a year. also i never really like the oem Hengst filters, after 5k the media gets distorted and looks half crushed. are Pureolator filters good? after 5k the media looks normal.
so what would you recommend. i can provide more details if needed, hope i didnt leave anything out.
