Is there a specific aftermarket atf that is recommended for this application, or will most any multi-vehicle type atf work?

man thats inflated. We pay a hair under 7 bucks a quart, think dealer list is 9
No kidding. My local dealer shows it as an $8.49 per quart fluid. I'd definitely check with the local dealership and see what they're asking and if it's within a dollar or two of the "one size fits all" products then I'd buy genuine Kia fluid.

Supposedly the Hyundai ATF SP-IV, Kia ATF-SP-IV, and Mitsubishi ATF SP4 are the same. The KIA ATF is alot cheaper

that's still double the price of Maxlife :sneaky:

Running 100% MaxLife in both cars for years now, all good.
I did full ATF replacement (myself) in both - at 20K miles in 'tage and 30K miles in 'te and doing D/F in both every 30K miles since.

Also using maxlife in my Hyundai, have zero complaints. Shifts perfectly, decently fast shifts for a hyundai set up, and is pretty smooth under most throttle conditions. I recommend it also. :D
I Did a 3X3 method to get most of the old fluid out initially, and plan to change it now every 25K for great transmission health.

Having been in contact with all the ATF suppliers in Australia (some more helpful than others) in regard for a safe to use ATF for 2017 Elantra auto. I have concluded in my opinion RAVENOL ATF SP-IV Fluid is the best bet, costing $26 less per litre than the overpriced OEM fluid. Here is some information from Ravenol on two ATF fluids. N0TE THE INFORMATION ON MULTI VEHICLE ATF. Hope this is helpful for Australians viewing this site.

Application Notes

RAVENOL ATF SP-IV Fluid is recommended for all vehicles with Hyundai 6-stroke automatic transmission

A6LF1/2/3, A6GF1, A6MF1/2 from 2009.

RAVENOL special transmission fluid is special development for special gear and cannot be selected on

the basis of technical parameters (viscosity, etc.). Therefore the decision was made not to give technical

data. Please note: RAVENOL special transmission fluid is exclusively to apply under the original number,

as indicated in the product information. Not sure of the correct transmission fluid, you can ask your

garage or the car dealer with respect to the original OEM gear type and number or consult our advisers.

It must be specified the VIN code (Vehicle Identification Number) of your vehicle. Misapplication of

RAVENOL special transmission fluid can lead to malfunction of the transmission shifting problems,

increased fuel consumption, unwanted slip behavior, etc. cause and cause the failure of the

transmission. Ravensberger Schmierstoffvertrieb GmbH does not liable for transmission failures in case

of wrong selection of RAVENOL special transmission fluid.

RAVENOL Multi ATF LVS Fluid is a product with very wide manufacturer coverage and can be used in almost all conventional automatic transmissions with shift groups.
Not suitable for CVT automatic transmissions.
RAVENOL Multi ATF LVS Fluid can be used as refill oil in a wide range of applications to meet the requirements of Ford, GM, Toyota, Honda, Nissan, Hyundai, KIA, BMW, Mercedes, Volvo, VW, Audi and others. It will be used if no suitable original oil or RAVENOL Professional Line oil is available. Observe the manufacturer's instructions.

Multi ATFs generally only meet the required specifications, i.e. the minimum technical requirements for an ATF. For that reason they are not suitable for permanent use. Multi ATFs should therefore only be used as a temporary replacement or for refilling if the special gear oil is not available for your application.

For continuous operation we recommend the use of our RAVENOL ATF Professional Line gear oils. These special oils are optimally formulated for individual automatic transmissions. They exceed the minimum requirements / specifications.

"...costing $26 less per litre..."

that's nuts, I get MaxLife at local Wally - 5L jug for C$33.
Of course the price in Australia is nuts at varies from $55 to $59 per litre for Hyundai ATF.

In Australia most aftermarket ATF companies do not recommend their ATF during the warranty period; however people are free to put whatever ATF in their transmissions that allow them to sleep at night.

Australia has very slack consumer law and car dealers charge like a wounded bull.
