I wonder why the car rattles on anything but an MC filter. The only major difference between the 820 and the wix/fram is the bypass location - which shouldn't contribute to a startup rattle, and I highly doubt that both the wix and fram have leaking ADBVs.
That is strange. I will say I just went from a Puro Pure 1 in my hemi jeep to the XG2 Fram, and everything runs the exact same. I've read that that motor is kind of sensitive to startup tick depending on filter, but no issues with the fram ultra that i've see on it.
I wish I could comment on any other filters with my Mustang, but yea I've only used the FL820s. In the past I would usually change it by time not mileage, so I never spent any more on a filter. This last change I knew I was going to drive the car quite a bit, and be pushing it, so I spent the extra $$ on the ford racing filter. It is a good bit more than some of the others, I think amazon has it for $20 with free shipping. But I can say with certainty the engine runs great with it. And its supposed to not only flow better, but also have higher capacity to be a longer life filter so the price may not actually be that bad. The can itself is also quite stout as in heavy. I'll post some pics when I get home of 4 filters (fram, MC, ford racing, and mobil 1). No that the pics tell you much, but from an outside visual inspection, the ford racing filter is made pretty well. I'm really going to have to cut this one open when I'm done with it.
BTW, I have a 4.6 3v also.
