Sudden oil level jump?

Haven't driven through deep water. I did look into the coolant overflow tank and I don't see any oil in there. IIRC when the engine is running, the oil pressure > coolant pressure, so oil would enter the cooling system.

Waiting on Blackstone test kit. Going to get a clean plastic bottle to store some of this oil in for now, so I can change it now and have it tested afterward.

Kinda off the wall, but do you always check your oil level at the same location/incline? Though that probably affects overnight sitting prior to a check than your method, FWIW.

Doesn't hurt to do what you are currently, if it winds up being precaution only, and good to know for sure with a UOA.

Yep, I always check the oil in the same spot--my garage.

I let it sit overnight (and then some). Took a couple ounces out, and it had no coolant in it (you probably heard my sigh of relief from wherever you were at the time). Couldn't smell any gas. Probably a bad ADBV I guess.

I was removing the filter with my modified 2-liter bottle, trying to be careful. But when the filter got free of the last thread, it fell into the bottle and the whole bloody thing fell onto the floor. So, I had no chance to look in the filter directly to tell how much oil was in there. I can say that only about 6 ounces of oil came out (i.e. into the bottle) before the filter fell. I was expecting more.

Anyway, thanks for the advice, everyone.
