On that A3 definition, I was focused on it's ramifications w/ the bearing issue. Meanwhile, the key attribute of an A3 is it's resistence to shearing down to a lighter wgt oil. Ie, the higher the HTHS the more shear resistant. This is key for oils designed for long drain intervals - they have to be designed with high HTHS values or they'll be water by the end of the OCI.
