Subaru oil filter cut open

Our good friend Schwinney stop by last night during winters wrath. Gave me a white can ST 6607 oil filter, Subaru auto trans filter and a Fram Ultra filter. And 2 Subaru engine filters. This is one of them. Looks decently made also.

I believe there is a blue one as well the one that is supposed to be manufactured by Fram.

However, no one has presented any real evidence or data to show the blue/Fram filter failed with normal OCI. And the EJ engine has been around since the 1990’s.

I have heard this argument as well and honestly the only thing I'm really looking for is just my engine rattle with one filter on and not the other or not.

And this criteria is totally inconclusive because it could just be a loose timing belt tensioner.

Interesting of note is that the blue filter that I mailed to 53 Stude well as the black ones are not actually specified for this engine in the US, the blue ones are from a Tribeca and the black ones are the Japanese ones.

The lengthy Thread about the relationship between the Fram and Subaru oil filters and bypass seems to have concluded in that there are only very limited circumstances in which bypass is a possibility and at all other times it's not a lot of people run Fram Ultras, Wix XP and Purolator Boss. There is a new one called Full I dont know what model fits.. and I've run Mazda N3R1-14-302 as well.. same black Roki...

I guess I got rid of the Blue "Fram" one.

I'll check again next week.

Got 2 new black Tokyo Roki trans and engine oil filters ready to go, filters must not see more than 4000 miles or they will self destruct, besides, that's 4 trips and to/from work, that's 4k right there.......

Howcome you're changing the filters so much? On our less than desirable Nissan CVT I plan to change the filter every 30K. But I couldn't imagine changing a trans filter every 4000 miles - especially on something like a Subaru 4-EAT which is pretty reliable.

And 500 miles ... wow, that's a commute! To think I passed on a house because it had a 35 mile commute.

The trans filter has been changed twice. Maybe once more each year. Changed fluid a lot and used 1 can SeaFoam TransTune in. Had 1st gear Shift Solenoid changed last year. Trans shifts perfect. Plus, OCD. Trans filter.. I have two now, if they came, I'll check after work..

Oil filter, the more the merrier.

The oil leak is probably the head gasket itself, but that's a whole another thread etc.
