Either way, it looks the RL worked for the poster on that outback forum.
I've got to get a better look underneath on my 2012 Legacy CVT. I don't recall seeing the trans fill plug underneath on mine, where I do see a plug (identical to the drain plug) up high on the trans case, close to the bellhousing. It's under the hood, right side, well above the vent hose for the front diff.
I've seen reports where 2012+ may have slight differences from 2010-2011.
