Subaru 5EAT trans fluid

My dad has been talking about his 5EAT transmission in his 2005 Subaru Outback wagon. He thinks there is hesitation when shifting occasionaly.

I want to change the transmission fluid for him.

Subaru recommends ATF-HP for this application.. Maxlife ATF would work for this application. I am going to do a drain and fill with Maxlife and Lubegard Red. How does this sound?


Also, any recommendations for gear oil?

Agreed. Depending on how much fluid is drained with a drain and fill you might want to do another drain and fill then use LG. I always do one drain, drive a week then drain and fill again with LG.

Manual Subaru transmissions are sensitive to which gear oil is used, but any good 75w90 GL-5 would work in the final drive of the automatic transmission.

Maxlife ATF works well wherever I use it, and I have used it in a huge number of cars.
