If I DO NOT replace the cartridge filter, and just change the oil, and continue to run the used filter?

If I REMOVE the current cartridge filter, and run the new oil change with NO FILTER?

I would think it would not hurt the engine except to oil would be unfiltered causing engine wear.

In my application, omission of the filter element would simply result in no filtration.
However, if a 3.6l Pentastar filter element, with the little plastic projection, was omitted, all the pumped oil would be short circuited into the pan.

Kira, are you saying the Pentastar would not lubricate the engine?
That's pretty risky. It could cause the dairy products in your fridge to curdle. All your credit cards might become demagnatized and your credit rating might possibly drop 50 points.

It's going to depend on application, but there are certainly designs where if the filter is not installed the engine will not have proper oil pressure.
