Hello, I'll be brief. This Summer I witnessed a 'none-to-bright' carpet installer destroy his just-purchased, 1996 Toyota Corolla. He was reacting to his mother's screaming over spilling some fuel whilst filling up.

He hastily decided that starting the engine to drive it clear was dangerous. He shoved it down the steep hill the gas station was on. The locked steering wheel prevented him from avoiding a guard rail at speed. He had no idea what a hand brake does. He destroyed the car. He hadn't owned it a full day.

This 42 year old dope destroyed the car his mother had just bought for him.

He went out this week and bought a brand new Dodge Challenger.

He has a kid, no wife, cable TV and cell phone bills, smokes cigarettes, just gets by and buys an all black 'glam-mobile' with 18" wheels which he parks in Newark, NJ.

What a foolish, consumeristic thing to do. Had to vent. Kira

I suspect you found the right forum.

I see it every day.

Soooooo....you got drunk, crashed your '02 Silverado, got charged with a DWI (felony repetition), your mom had to pay your bondsman, $5000 retainer to your attorney, and you face $28,000 in additional legal fees and surcharges.
What do you buy to replace your Silverado? A $43,000 Ford F-150 FX-2 of course. You need that truck working at Red Lobster.

Two problems with this story:

1. Why is a 42 year-old man letting his MOTHER buy a car for him?

2. Why is his mother still buying things for her 42 year old son?

They both need to grow up.

Hello,
A) The mom was buying the car ($1,500) because the son is a dull slob who doesn't know how to do anything.
She wanted to see her grandson in the safety of a car's rear seat. The divorced fellow was driving around in a decrepit, basic commercial van.
B) He was pushing the car clear of the pumps due to the large pool of fuel. The fuel neck leaked.
C) I have pictures on a cell phone.
D) I will be more informative in my thread's titles in the future. I'm stunned because I just think this strained family took two GIANT steps to deep-deep financial hardship.
E) John_K and Spazdog got the theme of the story.

I suppose it was too personal a topic. The pain is so great.

Just being cordial to the son of a friend who is so stupid he shouldn't have been allowed to spawn then to see a man-child like that initiate the purchase of a wasteful, senseless, new glam-car is galling.

Sorry. Never happen again. Kira

Seriously?

The actions of other people, actions that don't directly involve you whatsoever, cause you great pain?

Me thinks you should take a step back and evaluate that statement. The air is fresher when your nose isn't jammed up somebody else's rear end.

Sheesh dude. Not much of a gentleman, are you? Ease up.

42 years old, lives with his mom, but has a son and makes her buy him a car? Then goes out and wrecks the car and buys a 2 door sports car and wheels?

Sounds like he has his priorities straight...

At least it was a sale for Chrysler.
Bodyshops will have a field day with it shortly I guess.

Geez, maybe I should trade in my less than $1000 car for a new Viper.....

The fact is that when this "genius" will eventually be on the dole and receiving tax payer dollars to support himself and his child if he already isn't..it will be affecting Kira.

People at all levels make stupid purchases every day.
Parents also foolishly enable their adult children on a regular basis.
We have a 69 yo woman doing felony time in Ohio for bank robbery.
She robbed banks to raise money to give to her adult son, who is still walking around free.
Seriously!
What appears to be foolish and irresponsible to you and I makes perfect sense to some people.
