Usually use the 5 qt jugs of oil.
pour into engine.
at the bottom of the white jug-- there is sediment.
Is this sediment good/bad?

Is it part of the 'additive' that has settled?
If so--- should I shake the bottle so its dispersed in oil and makes it into engine?

Additive fallout. It shouldn't do this to any great extent though. Hopefully the base oils are solvent enough to hold the additives in suspension. I like to flip my stash every month or so to keep this from happening. It seems to work.

Yeah thats not good, those are additives that need to be in your engine oil, not it the oil bottle.

I flip the bottles/jugs upside down about a week or 2 before using it, I also shake the quart bottles before pouring it in the fill hole.

Motor oil is one category that definitely benefits from being shaken up on a regular basis.

Same here, it seems to work.

Whatever is at the bottom of the bottle is a tiny fraction of the additives in the oil, so there is no need to be worried. Shake before you pour if that makes you feel better, but it is nothing to get worked up about.

After reading a lot on this board about long (sooo subjective) storage of oil I also do the flip....keeps me from nightmares at 3am!! I wasn't OCD before BIGTOG!
